My Film Pitch: Million Dollar Treatment

A group of friends were living their lives happily until one of them gets cancer and the treatment is one million dollars. The only way to get this sort of money is to rob a bank! Will they pull this off and save their friend without getting caught? The film genre will be crime. This is because they will have to use violence to get in and out. My target audience is aged between (19-30) and 70% male and 30% female. The characters that will be in this film are called Trev, Robin, Jack, Daniel, one of which gets cancer. This movie concept was based around Ocean 11 & 12.

Film Posters And Trailers: Blog Task

The Wolf of Wall Street

Poster Key Conventions
The key conventions of this poster are, the name of the director, the main stars and the colour scheme, secondary image. These conventions might attract the audience because of the central and secondary image. It tells us that the movie is a hyper and party movie, which might attract audiences similar. The colour scheme is a yellowish gold which suggests money and power. The centre image is of a famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Trailer Key Conventions
The key conventions of the this film trailer are the name of the stars, the directors name, when it comes out. The name of the film and the release date come at the end of the film followed by the stars. The main star is shown in all of the clips along with some other people which suggests that they are also apart of the film and that they have a huge impact on the film. The trailer shows a lot of money being wasted and earned, which tells us that the film will be revolved around money.

I think that the trailer and the poster do promote the film successfully as they didn't show to much in the trailer and the poster gives good information about the film.

NCIS Film Trailer Analysis

Transformers Age of Extinction

The title of the film suggests that the world is about to end which suggests to the view that there is going to be some type of mission to save the world. The main characters are a family of a father and daughter. The father is a typical muscular man and tries to save his daughter. The is also a typical geeky person helping them. The film is set in a busy city. The film is a action film.

Ted

The film is a comedy mainly aimed at adults. The title of the film doesn't suggest much about the film because it is a simple name. The storyline is John (main character) makes a Christmas miracle by bring hes one and only best friend to life, he teddy Ted. We can see that the two main character seem to be a little unhygienic and helping each other out or discussing something that recently happened. The film takes place in classic urban America.

Indiana Jones
 And
 The Last Crusade

The genre of this movie is Adventure. The story line is a man called (Indiana Jone) goes on a mission to find the holy grail while being attacked and followed by the Nazis which also what to find it. We can see that this is set in the passed because how the men are dressed and how they speak. This film takes place in main different countries that have a desert landscape.

Film Institutions

Your chosen movie

1) What film have you chosen?
Wolf of Wall Street2) Why did you choose this film in particular?

I chose this film because I find it interesting and funny

Institutional background
Use IMDB to find out the institutions behind your chosen film. Find your film, click on Company Credits and then look for the production company and UK distributor.

1) What was the film studio or production company behind your chosen film? E.g. Warner Brothers, Paramount etc.

Red Granite Picture and Paramount Pictures

2) Who was the distributor for the theatrical release of the film in the UK?

Universal Pictures International

No brand loyalty

1) What genre does your chosen film fit into?
The film is a biography and comedy and Crime
2) How can you tell it fits that genre? Be specific with reference to the trailer.
I know the it fits with the genre because in the film and the trailer he talks to the camera and there are loads of funny moments in the trailer and movie.
3) Is your chosen movie a sequel?
No
3a) If Yes, how does the film use the original movie or franchise as part of its marketing?

3b) If No, are previous films by the writer, director or star mentioned in the trailer?

No

It’s all a matter of timing

1) What was the UK release date for your chosen film?
December 13th 2013
2) When did the first trailer appear on YouTube for your movie? Find the earliest example you can and embed it in your blog.
June 16th 2013
3)What other examples of marketing (teaser trailers, main trailers, newspaper or TV interviews etc.) can you find for your chosen film from before the film’s release date?
The teaser trailer and the poster tells us that a famous actor and director will be in the film and the realise date. It also tells us the writer and a bit of what's going to be in the film.

It’s a social thing

1) What was the word-of-mouth like for your chosen film? If you can’t find tweets (probably blocked) use the IMDB user review rating or the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer rating to judge whether the public have given the movie a good review.
The Viewers have given this film a 8.3 out of 10 and have given positive comments about the film ,but also what they think would have made the film better
Source: IMDB

2) Find three quotes (no more than 25 words each) from user reviews of your movie to create a picture of what the public reaction to the film has been. Post them on your blog.

1. Always thought that there must be a very good reason for a movie to last 3 hours. Wolf of wall street does last 3 hours but there no shadow of a good reason for it. It could have lasted 1 hour and it would have been already too long.

2. De Caprio is the heart of the film, a daredevil whose motivation seems to be a misguided desire to acquire as much money as possible. He lives his life as a constant dare, using and abusing the investments of others, gambling with his personal relationships and his own health. He constantly endangers his life and those who are closest to him. It seems like he is capable of stopping this fall, but he keeps sinking and sinking. We could say he has a survivor's nature, but he carries with a very intense death wish, too.

3. This film arrived in the UK with awards and Oscar nominations all around it, adding an expectation which it really didn't need adding since even without any of that it is ultimately a Scorsese film with a big name cast. It also arrives with some other stuff because the film has been criticized for near glamorization of the excesses that Belfort was able to experience with his ill-gotten funds and, to be honest, it is an impression that isn't helped when you consider that this film was put forward to the Golden Globes in the Musical/Comedy section. Now I am sure that was a political move by the studio, but it does say something about the film because indeed for most of it we have stuff so unbelievable and so excessive that it is hard not to laugh at it. It is hard not to enjoy it.

Risky business

Use IMDB to find out the box office records for your chosen film. Find your film, click on Company Credits and then Box Office/Business.

1) What was the original budget for your chosen film?

$100 million
2) How much money did the film make in the opening weekend?

Just under $24 million3) How much money has the film made in total? (Look for the subheading ‘Gross’ which has the total box-office earnings listed).
$392 million

Stars in their eyes

Research the stars and director for your chosen film.

Martin Scorsese has made many of films such as Shutter Island and Boardwalk Empire
2) Who is the main star in the film?
Leonardo DiCaprio
3) What other films has the main star appeared in? Are any of the films similar to the one you are researching?

Leonardo DiCaprio has appeared in many films such as Titanic and The Departed

Minority Report Analysis

The Medium Close Up (CSU) angle allows us to see the characters and there expressions and what they are wearing. It sets an impression that they are going to do something or something is going to happen. This Image allows us to see how many people are in this image. For there to be so many police men/women it allows us to see that a crime as been committed or is going to be committed or they are going to arrest the criminal that has committed a huge crime. The characters in this image look angry or very serious at what they are looking at.

The Wide Shot (WS) angle allows us to see the background a the character and his surroundings. Its allows us to see what he is doing and still allow us to see his environment, in this case he is running through a ally way. The car in the middle has a big impact in the environment as it is in the middle of the image which we put all our focus to it until we see the man running towards it which is the main point of it.
The Close-up (CU) angle allows us to see the characters face and his expressions and still allows us to see a bit of the background, it also allows us to see what type of clothes he is wearing and the colour of it. The characters facial expression tells us that he is in danger and that he is going to do something, since he is turning his head.

Camera Shots

Camera Shots
We chose to use the Long Shot (LS) because it shows the person and how he is and how he looks like and you were able to see where he was and his environment.
We chose this Medium Shot (MS) because it allows us to see the person more clearly and see what type of person he is.
The Medium Close Up (MCU) was chosen because it allowed us to see how the person was feeling and to see is facial expressions.
Close up (CU) was chosen to see more clearly how the person was feeling and his facial expressions.
Big Close Up (BCU) was chosen to see in extreme detail how he is feeling and to see if there is anything that was not shown clearly.
We also chose the over the shoulder (OTS) because it allows us to see what the victim is seeing (points of view).
Camera Angle
We used a Low Angle to make people feel intimidated/scared and to set the scene, also to show who is the bully.

We used a High Angle to show who the victim/weaker person is and to show a better understanding of what is going to happen and what is happening, also to see what he is doing.

Fruit Bowl Colour Task

Fruit Bowl Colour Task 1:

I chose this Expensive type of colours because they are bright and they stand out from the rest of the dark colours in the background. Most Expensive items are really bright and stand out from other things, like the fruits in the bowl stand out more then the 2 fruits on the side of the bowl. I used a dark background so people would focus more on the fruits then the actual background. I chose Yellow because it associated with the sun and it brightens days up.
I chose Green because it is to do with money and it goes with expensive.

LIAR

Language
The genre of the advert is sport and it is advertising the sports brand "Nike". The man in the advert is a athlete that ran in the Paralympics and it suggests that he can be an athlete and be able to run fast even if he is disabled and be successful.

Institution

The founders of the Brand "Nike" are Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. Nike is famous for selling sports items such as Football shoes which they have famous footballers sponsor them and they also have famous worldwide teams sponsor them.

Audience
I think Nike sells items to people aged 10-40 because they just don't do sport shoes they also do normal outdoor shoes. I think 60% men and 40% women buy Nike items because Nike normally favours football shoes.

Representation
I think this advert is inspiring to disabled people because it shows them that just because they have a disability doesn't mean they can't be successful in life and achieve what they want to be or become. It also tells us that just because your disabled doesn't mean you can't be as fast as other people or be even faster.

Media Debate

Statement: Teenagers are involved in more anti-social behaviour than any other age group.

I agree with this statement because most teens are influenced by their surroundings and this can have a great impact if they grow up in a bad neighbourhood, But not all teenagers are do anti-social behaviour, I think if they are brought up right they won't be doing it. Some teenagers can be peer pressured into doing it if they don't be careful. Sometimes the media can involve anti-social behaviour so they might go and do it without thinking what it would do to others and if it is correct, or they might see someone do it and think its "cool" and copy them.

1) My news program that i am going to pick is BBC Breakfast and you can watch it on Channel 1. It is on in the mornings (6am - 9am), Monday - Saturday. The presenters are Bill Turnbull, Louise Minchin (mon-wed)
and Charlie Stayt, Naga Munchetty(thurs-sat). The average people who watch BBC Breakfast is 6.838m people. The logo/brand identity is

2) BBC Breakfast first launched on the 17 January 1983. The founder was John Reith. BBC Breakfast is famous for having reliable up to date news on time everyday in the morning.
Channel Logo:

3) The target audience for this show is mainly adults aged between 19 - 60, this is because most children are not interested in the news and they don't really care about it as elders do and they find it interesting to know what is happening in the world. The people that watch this show are 50% boy and 50% girls.

4)
First Story
The first story was the missing girl Alice Gross that went to Brentside High School, I think editors chose this story because it is shocking how a teenager just went missing and to raise awareness if you have seen her.
Second Story
The second story was " British first Ebola Patient Discard ", I think that the editors put this in because its to show people that Ebola is curable and that he is the first British person to encounter Ebola and manage to get better.
Third Story
The final News story is " Robin Williams Death " , I think the news reporters put this in because Robin Williams was famous and he had many fans and he suddenly died.

HSBC Advert

HSBC Advert

In this activity we had to do in media studies was to create our own HSBC airport advert. We had to get a HSBC advert template and then get pictures that would fit a word (in this case I used the word "power"). We had to Photoshop the template in and then the pictures to make it fit in and look professional. After that we added the text under it.

In this activity we had to do a similar activity as the one above, but in the is one you had to get 1 picture and then get 3 words that could describe the picture. We got a template of Google and then a picture and put it into Photoshop and add 3 words that fit the picture.

My Thoughts About Media

1)      I chose Media Studies because I found it interesting and fun and I want to learn how to edit.
2)      I am looking forward to edit in Photoshop
3)      I am hoping to learn how to edit professionally
4)      I am hoping to get at A-B in media, but I wouldn’t mind a C but I would like to get above it. I am just hoping that I will do well.
5)      The last TV Program was “The Tomorrow People”.
6)      I think The Tomorrow People is appealing to people that like syfy programs and like violent/fighting programs.
7)      The last technology I used to access the media was my TV.
8)      I mostly use my computer to use the media
9)      Phone Hacking jury considers final verdicts. I think it is the main story because it scary how someone could be listening to your private convocation when you’re on the phone and then use it on the news.
10)  Rupert Murdoch: Scotland Yard want interview about crime at his UK papers. I think it is the main story because it is a crime and that people could be listening to your convocation is scary
