OK GO: Writing On The Wall
OK GO have a series of music videos that consist of illusions or really good patterns that don't really make sense with the music that is actually playing. The special thing about this video is that it was all taken in one shot. All the props in this video have been placed in a very specific way that every time they take a shot from that angle it makes it seem like its all in place correctly when its scattered around the room.
WoodKid - Run Boy Run
WoodKid have made a series of good
narrative music videos. In this music video it shows a boy aged 10-11 who is
running. At the start he is joined by some crows that seem to be trying to
attack him. Eventually he trips up, but a monster come out of the ground and
help him get back up. The more he runs the more monsters come out of the ground
and give him items. Finally he reaches the end of the path and he finally
reaches the city. The music video end with him yelling and pointing his sword
towards the city as if he was telling all the monsters to go and attack the
city.
Beyonce - Sweet Dreams
This music video starts off with the main
singer (Beyonce) Sleeping whilst having a nightmare. She slowly starts floating
up into the air and suddenly opens her eyes which start the song. The song
starts out with her dancing straight away and joined by two other women who
dance alongside her. The song carries on with her dancing with other women but
she changes clothes every shot, but the women alongside her do not. Mid-way
through the song she changes clothes and so do the women alongside her and they
change clothes into something every similar to her. The song ends with her
posing and the camera slowly going down and then a black screen come up and the
song ends.
Jayz And Kanye West - In Paris
The song starts out with a crowd jumping
and the names of the singers come. The song starts out with loads of flashing lights
shining down at the singers and every time it goes dark for a second they move
positions. The mirror effect was used in this music video a series of times on
the singers and the crowd. The whole of the music video is the artists
performing this song live while they get recorded. The mirror effect was used
to show a bigger crowd. Half way through the music video it cuts to an old film
clip that may seem odd to the viewer.
Rudimental - Waiting All Night ft, Ella Eyre
This song starts off this a group of men riding around
the city on their bikes when suddenly their friend gets hit by a truck. There
are a series of clips of the man lying in bed in hospital with a missing leg.
The video is mostly filmed in first person or with a Go Pro. All the shot taken
in this music video are medium shot, Close up or a long shot. The video
is almost filmed like a documentary about the man’s life.
Coldplay - Paradise
This song is about a elephant that is prisoned in some type of zoo and its mission to get back to his family in the wild. The elephant had to go through a various of tasks such as sneaking onto a plane and making it's way back to the wild only using a unicycle. The whole band at the end are all dressed in elephant costumes and playing the drums and guitar which goes along with the music in the actual video.
Macklemore - Ceiling Can't Hold Us
This music video was taken in two different
continents ranging from the Pacific Northwest to Southern California to New
Zealand. In this music video they use all the camera shots, mainly medium,
close up, long and medium close up shots. There are approximately 400 shots in
this video. At the very end it shows the singer (Maklemore) on a cart
that is being pulled by a car and the camera pans out and the credits appear.
Rudimental - Right Here
This song has an estimate of 250-300 shots, and they are nearly all close ups or medium shots. They have loads of shots that pan out and in into another object or person. This music video is about a man who is creating a bond with a tiger who is then moved and kidnapped by some robbers and he then goes and tries to save the tiger with another girl who helps and saves his life by releasing the tiger and scaring off the robbers. The music video ends with them happily returning home.
Ed Sheeran - You Need Me, I Don't You
This song is all in black and white, and it starts of with showing a teenage boy aged around 14-15 who is mimicking the song ,but in sign language which almost makes him look like he is dancing. Toward the end there are motifs to match the song lyrics. The song ends with showing the singer of the video. The actual song artist actually only appears in the music video for about 6 seconds.
Fall Out Boy - Centuries
The story this music video is story lined based. The song is telling the audience to remember the four men that fought in the arena. This music video was set around the ancient Roman times.The video starts off with a robed man approaching four cellars with men trapped inside. The robed man gives each man a small gift for them to use in the arena. The four men are forced to fight against a man who is clearly much stronger then them. The use there gifts to create a weapon to kill the man and hopefully be set free. The video ends with the four men kill the other man and a huge door opening and another man standing there ready to fight.
