OK GO: Writing On The Wall

OK GO have a series of music videos that consist of illusions or really good patterns that don't really make sense with the music that is actually playing. The special thing about this video is that it was all taken in one shot. All the props in this video have been placed in a very specific way that every time they take a shot from that angle it makes it seem like its all in place correctly when its scattered around the room.
WoodKid - Run Boy Run

WoodKid have made a series of good narrative music videos. In this music video it shows a boy aged 10-11 who is running. At the start he is joined by some crows that seem to be trying to attack him. Eventually he trips up, but a monster come out of the ground and help him get back up. The more he runs the more monsters come out of the ground and give him items. Finally he reaches the end of the path and he finally reaches the city. The music video end with him yelling and pointing his sword towards the city as if he was telling all the monsters to go and attack the city.

Beyonce - Sweet Dreams

This music video starts off with the main singer (Beyonce) Sleeping whilst having a nightmare. She slowly starts floating up into the air and suddenly opens her eyes which start the song. The song starts out with her dancing straight away and joined by two other women who dance alongside her. The song carries on with her dancing with other women but she changes clothes every shot, but the women alongside her do not. Mid-way through the song she changes clothes and so do the women alongside her and they change clothes into something every similar to her. The song ends with her posing and the camera slowly going down and then a black screen come up and the song ends.

Jayz And Kanye West - In Paris
The song starts out with a crowd jumping and the names of the singers come. The song starts out with loads of flashing lights shining down at the singers and every time it goes dark for a second they move positions. The mirror effect was used in this music video a series of times on the singers and the crowd. The whole of the music video is the artists performing this song live while they get recorded. The mirror effect was used to show a bigger crowd. Half way through the music video it cuts to an old film clip that may seem odd to the viewer.

Rudimental - Waiting All Night ft, Ella Eyre

This song starts off this a group of men riding around the city on their bikes when suddenly their friend gets hit by a truck. There are a series of clips of the man lying in bed in hospital with a missing leg. The video is mostly filmed in first person or with a Go Pro. All the shot taken in this music video are medium shot, Close up or a long shot. The video is almost filmed like a documentary about the man’s life.

Coldplay - Paradise
This song is about a elephant that is prisoned in some type of zoo and its mission to get back to his family in the wild. The elephant had to go through a various of tasks such as sneaking onto a plane and making it's way back to the wild only using a unicycle. The whole band at the end are all dressed in elephant costumes and playing the drums and guitar which goes along with the music in the actual video.

Macklemore - Ceiling Can't Hold Us

This music video was taken in two different continents ranging from the Pacific Northwest to Southern California to New Zealand. In this music video they use all the camera shots, mainly medium, close up, long and medium close up shots. There are approximately 400 shots in this video.  At the very end it shows the singer (Maklemore) on a cart that is being pulled by a car and the camera pans out and the credits appear.

Rudimental - Right Here
This song has an estimate of 250-300 shots, and they are nearly all close ups or medium shots. They have loads of shots that pan out and in into another object or person. This music video is about a man who is creating a bond with a tiger who is then moved and kidnapped by some robbers and he then goes and tries to save the tiger with another girl who helps and saves his life by releasing the tiger and scaring off the robbers. The music video ends with them happily returning home.

Ed Sheeran - You Need Me, I Don't You
This song is all in black and white, and it starts of with showing a teenage boy aged around 14-15 who is mimicking the song ,but in sign language which almost makes him look like he is dancing. Toward the end there are motifs to match the song lyrics. The song ends with showing the singer of the video. The actual song artist actually only appears in the music video for about 6 seconds.

Fall Out Boy - Centuries
The story this music video is story lined based. The song is telling the audience to remember the four men that fought in the arena. This music video was set around the ancient Roman times. The video starts off with a robed man approaching four cellars with men trapped inside. The robed man gives each man a small gift for them to use in the arena. The four men are forced to fight against a man who is clearly much stronger then them. The use there gifts to create a weapon to kill the man and hopefully be set free. The video ends with the four men kill the other man and a huge door opening and another man standing there ready to fight.

Representation

In this film they are very stereotypical about the gender of the actors in it and which could be offensive to people. In the film Wolf of Wall Street men are represented as big business men that are very protective about their money. The business men in this film are represented as very rich and spend their money to try bribe women and to buy drugs and other illegal items. The dwarf (the disabled person) in the film is used as throwing object. In this film they have protracted The American Dream in a very bad way because the man in this film (Leonardo Dicaprio) is doing illegal stuff to reach this dream and is ripping off people and breaking promises to gain money. USA is represented as a place where men are full of money and the women are bribed by the men. It is also represented as a place where everyone does drugs and other illegal acts. The 1980's are represented as very chaotic and most white people are rich/high business men while black people ain't so rich and struggle to make a living. As there are hardly any black people in this film it tells us that black people back in the 80's weren't as rich as white people.

My Film Pitch: Million Dollar Treatment

A group of friends were living their lives happily until one of them gets cancer and the treatment is one million dollars. The only way to get this sort of money is to rob a bank! Will they pull this off and save their friend without getting caught? The film genre will be crime. This is because they will have to use violence to get in and out. My target audience is aged between (19-30) and 70% male and 30% female. The characters that will be in this film are called Trev, Robin, Jack, Daniel, one of which gets cancer. This movie concept was based around Ocean 11 & 12.

Poster Key Conventions
The key conventions of this poster are, the name of the director, the main stars and the colour scheme, secondary image. The colour scheme is a yellowish gold which suggests money and power. The centre image is of a famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Trailer Key Conventions
The key conventions of the this film trailer are the name of the stars, the directors name, when it comes out. The name of the film and the release date come at the end of the film followed by the stars. The main star is shown in all of the clips along with some other people which suggests that they are also apart of the film and that they have a huge impact on the film. The trailer shows a lot of money being wasted and earned, which tells us that the film will be revolved around money.

I think that the trailer and the poster do promote the film successfully as they didn't show to much in the trailer and the poster gives good information about the film.

The title of the film suggests that the world is about to end which suggests to the view that there is going to be some type of mission to save the world. The film is set in a busy city. The film is a action film.

Ted

The film is a comedy mainly aimed at adults. The title of the film doesn't suggest much about the film because it is a simple name. The storyline is John (main character) makes a Christmas miracle by bring hes one and only best friend to life, he teddy Ted. No brand loyalty

1) What genre does your chosen film fit into?
The film is a biography and comedy and Crime

I know the it fits with the genre because in the film and the trailer he talks to the camera and there are loads of funny moments in the trailer and movie.
3) Is your chosen movie a sequel?
No
3a) If Yes, how does the film use the original movie or franchise as part of its marketing?

3b) If No, are previous films by the writer, director or star mentioned in the trailer?

No

It’s all a matter of timing

December 13th 2013

June 16th 2013
3)What other examples of marketing (teaser trailers, main trailers, newspaper or TV interviews etc.) can you find for your chosen film from before the film’s release date?
The teaser trailer and the poster tells us that a famous actor and director will be in the film and the realise date. It also tells us the writer and a bit of what's going to be in the film.

It’s a social thing

1) What was the word-of-mouth like for your chosen film? If you can’t find tweets (probably blocked) use the IMDB user review rating or the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer rating to judge whether the public have given the movie a good review.
The Viewers have given this film a 8.3 out of 10 and have given positive comments about the film ,but also what they think would have made the film better
Source: IMDB

2) Find three quotes (no more than 25 words each) from user reviews of your movie to create a picture of what the public reaction to the film has been. Post them on your blog.

1. Always thought that there must be a very good reason for a movie to last 3 hours. Wolf of wall street does last 3 hours but there no shadow of a good reason for it. It could have lasted 1 hour and it would have been already too long.

2. De Caprio is the heart of the film, a daredevil whose motivation seems to be a misguided desire to acquire as much money as possible. He lives his life as a constant dare, using and abusing the investments of others, gambling with his personal relationships and his own health. He constantly endangers his life and those who are closest to him. It seems like he is capable of stopping this fall, but he keeps sinking and sinking. We could say he has a survivor's nature, but he carries with a very intense death wish, too.

3. This film arrived in the UK with awards and Oscar nominations all around it, adding an expectation which it really didn't need adding since even without any of that it is ultimately a Scorsese film with a big name cast. It also arrives with some other stuff because the film has been criticized for near glamorization of the excesses that Belfort was able to experience with his ill-gotten funds and, to be honest, it is an impression that isn't helped when you consider that this film was put forward to the Golden Globes in the Musical/Comedy section. Now I am sure that was a political move by the studio, but it does say something about the film because indeed for most of it we have stuff so unbelievable and so excessive that it is hard not to laugh at it. It is hard not to enjoy it.
